The list of Russia's "golden hundred" cartoons was announced at the opening of the 17th Open Animation Festival in Suzdal and was to mark 100 years of Russia's cartoon industry, the Moscow News informs.
Alexander Nazarov's work "Once Upon a Dog" took the 1st place, according to Russian experts. Yury Norshtein's masterpiece "Hedgehog in the Fog" which was named No.1 in the All Time Animation Best 150 in Japan and Worldwide in 2003 came second. The Russian version of "Winnie-the-Pooh" was named the third greatest cartoon.

Russian tennis player Alisa Kleybanova has successfully completed a course of treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma and now plans to return to action at the Miami tournament in March.
Kleybanova has so far won two WTA Tour singles titles, with her best performances in Grand Slams being fourth round exits at Wimbledon and the Australian Open. She, however, hasn't played a single match since being diagnosed a cancer originating in May last year, Russia Today writes.

A resident of the Far Eastern Khabarovsk region was arrested after attempting to sell her five year old son for 300,000 rubles ($10,345).
Investigators filed a criminal case against the woman for human trafficking and if found guilty, she could face up to ten years in prison. The boy is in now in social care in a hospital in the city of Bikin.

Ria Novosti writes that a street in Milan will be named after the slain Russian investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya, who, according to Milan council "represented the journalism of courage, justice and the search for truth."
The proposal was initiated by the rights group AnnaViva (Anna is Alive) which petitioned Milan City Council to follow other European cities where streets named after Anna Politkovskaya had already appeared.

The sociological poll recently conducted by Russia's Public Opinion Research Center showed that the number of people visiting churches, mosques and synagogues has increased 20% during the last 16 years. 7% of people go to church at least once a month, 30% visit it from time to time and 34% are rare church visitors. Only 26% of Russians never go to church as opposed to previous figure - 46 % of country's nationals.
Most of the visitors to church talk to God (38% of people), 31% read prayers, 27% venerate the relics. While 11% of people coming to the church just look around observe what's going.

The Voice of Russia informs of the recent victory of Russian women team at the Bandy World Championship in Irkutsk, Siberia. Russian girls have defeated the Norwegian team in a group stage match with a score of 4:0. Earlier on Friday the Russian team also defeated the Americans (8:0).
Irkutsk is centre of women's bandy in Russia, like other Siberian cities where this sport enjoys high popularity.

Legendary Russian ballerina Maya Plisetskaya has been honored with the highest decoration of France - the Legion of Honor medal. A 85-year-old artist has long had close ties to France, worked with the leading light of choreography, including French luminaries Maurice Béjart and Roland Petit.
Plisetskaya is now one of 150 Russian Officers of the Legion of Honor, prized for being the embodiment of grace, talent and courage, Russia Today writes.

The 2012-2013 season will open on 24 September with a premiere of L'Elisir d'Amore.
